We have brought chess to the school because we believe it directly contributes to academic performance. Chess makes kids smarter. It does so by teaching the following skills: Focus and concentration, visualizing and thinking Ahead. They learn to identify alternatives and consider the pros and cons of various actions. Students learn planning and develop longer range goals and take steps toward bringing them about. They juggle multiple considerations simultaneouslytry to weigh various factors all at once.

Chess as an educational tool can increase higher level thinking skills, ability to visualize, analyze, and think critically, advance math, reading skills, and build self-confidence.There is a strong correlation between learning to play chess and academic achievement.
